hfss undo unite

hi
I attach my project, this is 90 degrees hybrit coupler.
My problem is to change the length of the coupler. I drew the model and results are not satisfying, so I want to change the lengths of the some parts. However I united all small parts, and I cannot change parts now. Can I de-unite items? Do I have to draw them again?
One more question, using duplicate makes life easier, but when I do not want changing one part to affect duplicate part, what should I do?
thanks.

hfss project.variable

Hi,
You should define some project variables and create the structure using them like L for some length , R for some radius and so on. Not only will you be able to modify structures easily but also you can perform parametric sweeps and optimizations easily with such an approach. Consult the HFSS online help for more details.

hfss delete unite

thanks for your answer
what about uniting? is it necessary?
another problem is duplication. should I duplicate? how can I change only one of the duplicated items?
thanks.

de-unite hfss

You can perform all boolean operations after defining variables. You will get the structure as you want provided the values of parameters do not become illegal i.e supp the absolute value of some length turns out negative. So if you can assure a legal structure with the range of parameters used, you can always use this approach. I infact use this to enable me to quickly change the geometries. May be you can add some independent steps if you need to apply changes to only part or something like that

hfss copy paste

the past operation seqential is recorded in the software temp. and what you can do is only to reversely follow the record one by one

delete part of a united object in hfss

haydar,

In order to undo the unite operation right click the (united) object and click "Delete Last Operation". This will create back the original objects. Then I suggest that you wil parameterize the length.

Instead of duplicating use good old fashioned "Copy-Paste". Just make sure that when you are pasting you are in the global coordinate system.

delete unite hfss

I will use copy-paste as you suggest, because duplication may cause problem. I have to consider all the bounds.
secondly, if my coupler was only straight lines, parametrizing would be easier. however, to parametrize my original one is so complicated. therefore, I decided to use straight lines and parametrize these lines, then I will use that length to build compact form.
thanks all.

hfss unite objects

about de-unite
I found how to undo unite even after some changes and save operations.
simply delete "unite" segment on the list and all parts form united one object will be de-united.

hfss united object

my two cents:
the coupler in your design have some symmetry propeties we can use. it should be helpful to build up the parametric studying model. Build up a S-shape element(unite 1 rectangle and two segments of arc), then duplicate and move, unite necessay part and subtrace unnecessary part. Wish you can get what I am saying.
PS, is there any difference about copy + paste and duplicate + move?

Best Regards,

Best Regards,

I am about to complete my study on coupler, next , I will design a birdcage coil.
anyways, thank you for your advice. for your question, there is a major difference between two: when you duplicate and change a property of one element, other will change immediately.
however, when you copy and paste, they are independent after all.
you may use both for different implementations.

undo substract hfss

i see, thx. then for your design, duplicate is better for parametric studying. look this:

S S S S

unite them together, then it is almost the same shape of your coupler. ^_^

To haydar:

You can select the 'substract', then select '×' or 'delete', you will de-unite, just try!

Best regards!
