[SOLVED] Media Access control (MAC) and ethernet

Hi friends,
I'm a new beginner in network.
I searched and read a lot about media access control , but unfortunately I could not understand the relation between MAC and ethernet .
Can anybody explain about it?

This is the most simpler explanation. So you should have much more idea about the networking side:)

A simple way of saying it is that the MAC address is the nickname of the network card. Your nickname is moottii, the nickname of your network interface is maybe something like 01:23:45:67:89:ab.
Ethernet is a general name of the technology.
 

The MAC sub layer of the OSI model refers to the part that is the brains of layer 2 switching; the MAC layer sets up communications via MAC addresses alone, meaning that all traffic must be on the same subnet otherwise its either dropped or forwarded on to the gateway address; think layer 3 routing vs. layer 2 switching.
 

The MAC is a unique identity of a network device like IMEI id of mobile devices. While the Ethernet is a physical or datalink of computer networks. Ethernet tells how we can establish a network connection.

MAC is like IMEI for mobile and Ethernet is like SIM for mobile means u can change Ethernet but not MAC
 

I think you are making a confusion here. MAC layer is much more than a MAC address.

As dear "etmabreu" said MAC isn't just an Identifier.
