hi , guys i have a dought in cmos layout drawing, if anybody knows pls help me.
my ques. is: why do the cmos layouts are drawn horizontally or vertically, why not diagonally, and why not in zig-zag fashion? pls help me
 

I think It makes sense if you look at it in the process perspective. CMOS needs n-well and p-well and it makes sense to gather same type of transistors together because these are made from chemical process. I think it would be easier to make a rectangular shape than arbitrary shape from the chemical process.
