hello sir,

I am new to microcontrollers. I know basics of electronics and can repair circuits. i bought 89CXX / 8051 development board kit. It contains 5 V DC supply, some capacitors, crystel, RS232 IC, one 40 pin / 20 pin IC socket, philips make 89C51 mcu, etc. I soldered it, connected it with serial port of my PC and tried to communicate with different sotwares line pony prog, flash magic etc. But i could not communicate with it to PC. (My pc is running Windows7).

I've one hex file and i want to load in this MCU(89C51). I want guidance / tutorial for begginers. Can any one help me? please.

Re: 89CXX development borad

Read flash magic guide it will give you answer to your communication problems. which chip are you using? lots of NXP 8051 chips works differently.

Read 8051 Book by Mazidi.

some more detail is reqd. if it is philips , then it can be 89vrd2 series.
does the board have any switch, which is to be set program/operation mode?

without serial , does the board comes up with led on etc after you have soldered it?

Try serial communication using hyper terminal. Since you are using win7, it doesn't have hyper terminal in it. Anyways you can download it from this link.

files.digitizor.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/hyperterminal1.zip

once you unzip 2 files, hypertrm.dll and hypertrm.exe, make sure these 2 files are kept in the same folder, and click on hypertrm.exe.
Set the baud rate and data will be serially communicated.

Thanks for reply.
Here i attached picture of circuit. It does not have LED.It has only on/off switch. I want to know, can i program MCU in this kit(by putting MCU in 40 pin socket) and which software i have to use?

Sir, Please give some more details. I've copied hyperterminanl and opened it. Set com port and baudrate. If it connecedt can i see any message on screen?

Image shows you are using P89c51RD2 chip you will find circuit for programming this chip in flashmagic guide.
I think PSEN is required a connection for programming.
page 44 in flash magic manual will solve your problem.

Once you set the default baudrate and connect , you can see the connection status at the left bottom of the hyper terminal window.
