I would like to design a pick and place system (autoplacing), where the machine pick SMT or BGA component and place it on it's pad on the PCB. I don't mind to use cameras and image recognition patterns to get exact and full automated results. I need all possible help because I don't know from where to start.

Y will need a lot of money and motors and electronic robotics controller.
r u rich ? I have been working with this systems worth 150,000 $ .

I don't care about money at all, all I care about is the science and design.

Well i can hok u up with the guy in usa.
u cant do all the that alone help in this matter can take weeks or months , how r u going do do that from Egypt .
check out in Google what is a computerized linear motor motion machine and see if u can understand the software .
then u need to buy i small used 1 x axis motor to understand the system. then add y axis motor on the x axis arm

Pick and Place | SMT Pick and Place Machines | Pick and Place Systems | Pick and Place Equipment | Circuit Boards | Prototype PCB Assembly | Stencils Unlimited
remember a company sells hundreds of machines so it will cost u 5 times more than buying one .

Thanks for your help, actually I decided to start this project whatever it costs (time or money), about the hardware needed I have some friends in china who will help me in purchasing all the needed hardware. So I am going to take the first step, I searched on some DSP processor and I found TMS320DM816x DaVinci Digital Media Processors maybe this will help. Also I searched for some devices which perform the same functions I need,

I know that the machine I saw is not a pick and place machine, it's for rework but I need to design a system of picking an IC and placing it on the PCB, same as this machine do.

I think u started from the end.
My advice is first do the robotic arm (for a known fixed placed part)made of a simple linear step motor moving on a screw with encoder and tachometer, and on that connect a vacuum probe .
"vishay" i am working with make a good machine costing about 2000$ and 1 month work.

good luck

Thanks so much for your advice, you know I will need your help in this project:). I can work with electronics, microcontrollers and so on, but the problem will be with the mechanical design could you help me with any available data or sources in mechanical design.

Our company is already 6 months into this project and should have a complete pick and place automated system that is extremely cost effective in another 3 months. If you want further details or would like to collaborate with us, you can reply to srlabsllc@gmail.com and we can start a discussion thread.
