Glad you got it working. You can add a 10K resistor between the 16F877 pin 1 and +5 if you're not using the Inchworm with MPLAB. MPLAB controls DTR to reset the 16F877.
PS Q4 was drawn incorrectly in previous schematics, it's corrected in REV E (on the site)

You'll need to put together a cheap programmer to load the bootload software onto the PIC. Lots of NOPPs or I like the JDS style serial port ones. You can't use LVP programming as RB3 is used for the BUSY LED.

It's the low voltage program pin. Not worth using as you lose the PIN after it's programmed (Has to be grounded)
The stolz design does work though. There is a catch to all the serial programmers.
