You can not leave out the 0v! The circuit will not work properly if its DC Gnd is not connected to the power supply.
Try using two 24 volt batteries connected in series to get +24 volt and -24 volt supply for the circuit and connect the 0 volt to the circuit's 'DC Gnd'.

As per my own understanding (if I'm right! :) ), current source is something that when it was put in a closed loop it would provide current. Any source being put in an open loop circuit of cause has null current.

1) In practice anything that sourcing/output current can be regarded as a current source.
2) We call this a constant current source.
