Thanks for the help guys (& gals?). I think in my case a loop inductance comparison to other pairs will tell me if there are a couple of suspect pairs. Then I can rig an improvised TDR which should tell me where along the cable the problem is.

It is a free site that you can send data to from an Arduino or similar uC, and browse the data there or download it as a CSV file. You can also host the software on your own server.
Soldering a UFL connector onto the SWF pads may be the best option. From what I have read the SWF connector is for test only and does not retain itself. The SWF spring loaded internal switch self-ejects the plug once you let go of it. There is no physical room on the PCB for a SMA connector.
The Arduino Yun controller board has a WiFi transceiver with a SWF type connector (https://www.digikey.com/us/en/ph/Murata/SWF_Connector.html) which passes through to a ceramic built in omni antenna. Conventional WiFi antennas usually have a RP-SMA or a UFL connector.

you can pull out the heavy wire and wind 2 windings of smaller wire to get a transformer.
You should talk to the board house that will be making the board. Most anybody can make 8 mil lines. 6 mil may cost a little extra. 4 mil is available if you are willing to pay.
