I am looking for a replacement for a micro SD card that I can solder onto a PC board.
I don't even need flash memory, so an SRAM would do as a buffer for data read from

I am looking at the Altera DE0, DE1 and DE2 as well as the Xilinx/Digilent university ranges of boards to try out some DSP programming. I also want to be able to process FFT's.

have never done any DSP using dedicated chips and have a project which requires monitoring between 75kHz and 150kHz with the passband variable between these frequencies. Outside this range needs to be blocked. Its for sonar for cetacean monitoring. I have experience of designing the code...

I have a watchdog circuit on a uP that is used to replace the onboard watchdog that is
used for hibernation etc. It tested out most of the time does the right thing.
The external watchdog is an ADM706P, which works fairly well.
