What's the advantage of passive mixer?

How passive mixer has been used in a lot of places. I knew it has better linearity comparing with the traditional Gilbert cell. But besides that, are there any other advantages? How is the noise comparing with active mixers?

Pls recommand a HFSS tutorial to start

I am an IC designer and used to IE3D, sonnet and momentom. But never know how to use HFSS. Could anyone please can introduce some HFSS tutorial to start? Thanks!

    Is IE3D a 3D EM simulator?

what is ie3d thx, maxwellian and EMC for the answer. I am only an EM simulator user, not an EM specialist. To my understanding, IE3D can mesh the vertical plane rather than of horizontal ones. I don't know Momemtum can do it or not. But I know for sure that sonnet can not do it. In our case...

    Is IE3D a 3D EM simulator?

ie3d sonnet I am trying to put my boss to purchase IE3D for our group in the EM design. But he is a fan of Agilent Momemtum. I know that IE3D uses MOM, which is also used by Agilent Momemtum and Sonnet. But someone told me that IE3D is a 3D EM simulator instead of 2.5D like Momemtum and Sonnet...

above 60GHz? looking for commercial products

Re: above 60GHz? No. That's wrong. 60GHz band is for fast data rate communications, normally for video streams. One of its application is for wireless HDMI. Its said that the data rate is as high as 4Gb/s.

Active device undered the RF inductors

The size of the inductor is around 200um, I have my LNA's cascode transistors in the center of it. It is a 4.5 turn inductor, having a inductance of around 7nH. My frequency is 2GHz, no shield. How can I simulate the coupling effect?

Active device undered the RF inductors

In our receivers, we put an active device(cascode device) under a RF inductor, do you think that may cause problems? Thx.

which is the correct matching path in LNA?

When you are talking about Gamma, opt, that must be Gamma,s, which related to source impedance, so the correct way is to match from 50Ohm to Gamma, opt. However, you can to it in the other way, but you have to match from conj(Gamma, opt) to 50Ohm

    Question on Sigma-Delta ADC

Do you mean that delta-sigma ADC will always have a tone at around fclk/2 at its output? Thx.

    Question on Sigma-Delta ADC

Hi, guys, I am working on a receiver design. My sigma-delta ADC is running with a clock at 26MHz. Now I have a problem with the ADC output. There is always a tone located at around 13MHz. The tone is radiating into everywhere and destroy my noise figure at frf=n*13MHz. Anyone know what's happened?

Question on Y-factor measurement on mixers NF

I am thinking about notch out either USB or LSB to see the SSB noise figure. Bandpass is good also.

Question on Y-factor measurement on mixers NF

I will put a notch filter and do the measurement on Monday. Thx...:-)

Question on Y-factor measurement on mixers NF

nf measurement y factor example Thanks for the reply. My question is, for example, I use Y-factor to measure the noise figure of my mixer, and I got my noise figure from NF=ENR/(Y-1) is 6dB. 6dB is DSB NF or SSB NF ? I am a little bit confused on this.

Question on Y-factor measurement on mixers NF

y factor to measure nf I am performing a measurement of NF on my mixer, using the Y-factor method. Could someone please explain to me my results is single-sideband or double sideband? Thanks.

How to precisely measure the Q inductor?

Re: Measuring inductor Q Setup a 2-port measurement, use VNA to measure the 2-port S-parameter. Converter it into Y-parameters. Q=-Imag(Y11)/Real(Y11)
