Think you might be better off trying a positive regulator.
Try putting a 7805 output on the transistor base, this will then set the output at 5V-0.6V.
Wire the collector to vin of the 7805 such that 3055 becomes a big power dropper and current amplifier.
I would also place a restive load to...
Re: Need help with picking a PCB layout software
I know this is an old post now, but I created a fairly complicated board outline (slots avoiding pillars, sloping sides, extensions for connector support) in the free DesignSpark Mechanical and exported it as a DXF to DesignSpark PCB and it...
For you analog input you need to take the AC signal from the secondary of a low voltage transformer for safety.
Then amplify the AC so that the rate of change of the voltage at the zero crossing is fast. This will reduce jitter effects.
You will also need to add back to back diodes across the...
First, I have not done a detailed analysis of your code, but some debug methods may help in identifying the issue.
1. Is the circuit going though the loop, to check this add two LEDs wit resistors to some unused outputs such that they flash up/or down when the buttons are pressed.
2. Can you...
I would suggest investigating a laser range finder/ruler as these have had the benefit of development for a mass market and are now low cost and robust. They are now routinely used for room measurements for house sales/marketing and the DIY industry.
Other possible options are the robotic...
Re: Is RF bad for health
Looking back over these post including my own, I think the title "Is RF bad for health" is the problem with all these type of questions. We just do not know, and possibly will never know, a better title (possibly) might be "Should I take any precautions using RF?"
There...

Re: spark retard unit help
I haven't got an example but look at something like the Arduino which has a great user support forum to help newbies.
You buy a board (Uno is oldest and cheapest) but it comes with the free online compiler which is tailored towards beginners.
You will probably need a...
Hi, as Audioguru said the difference is the heater which heats the cathodes.
Primarily if the a tube is to be switched on and off frequently a heater is used as this reduces cathode stripping and makes the tube last longer.
For a tube that's left running the cathode wear is not so significant so...
Re: spark retard unit help
Isn't this really the ideal project for a microcontroller?
You will have control over the delay at any frequency, which is effectively the ignition map of car ignition management unit.
Right 'cards on the table' I am after votes, BUT I also want to share my project and DesignSpark Mechanical experience.
Here is my entry **broken link removed** and as said votes (by clicking LIKE) would be appreciated (you will have to register at the site to do this, but you don't get any...
Interesting. Hmmmm....
Well it could be that the blobs of compound are enough with a good heatsink. After all too much compound is worse than none.
It could be designed to work with just the flat surfaces so the compound is a bonus?
Cynically it could be that it works but the light performance...
