It may be that your source for capacitors just expresses the value in a different form.
I believe the part you are looking for is the Xilinx XC2S50. This part is in the Spartan-II family. The 50 in the part number indicates that it has 50,000 gates.

This depends on whether the project is set up hierarchically or not. A top sheet is not a requirement. If a top sheet is not used, ports can be used to connect from a schematic sheet to any other sheet.
You are correct though that Altium expects you to use net labels for on-sheet connections...
