lna design step by step
these are some good tutorials for LNA design step by step using ADS.It really helped for me
go to this post and download the 2 tutorials
I am doing 12 GHz LNA using microstrip and GaAs PHEMT FET. i am using voltage supply Vdd=5V and Vgs=-0.2V creating Id=10mA.
My problem is:
1)what is the suitable values of the DC Blocking capacitor for the RF input and output?( i know that the SRF must be higher than operating frequency but i...
Re: LNA testing
Hi abdoeng
i hav attached my ads .zap file for ur viewing.I am using ADS2005A.
My fabricated design is schematic 12GHzR3010_7.dsn and 12GHzR3010_8.dsn
both design are similar but the difference is the lumped component artwork used and the simulation performance.
I am still new...
Re: LNA testing
thank u very much for the reply.
I dont understand what u mean by 'when the gate is float and u connect the transistor will not work again'. can u pls explain?
testing procedure of lna
My university lab doesnt have VNA.We only hav Network analyser, signal generator and spectrum analyser.
1)How am i to analyse the noise figure?
2)How to counter the effects of ESD when testing?
3)can u pls tell me more about adjusting the bias point?(should i apply the...
I m doing a 12GHz LNA using ATF36077 phemt (avago). I hav fabricated and soldered the circuit.
My Vgs=-0.21V and Vdd=4.8V(operating point Id=10mA,Vdc=1.5V and Pin(max)=10dBm.
1)Can anyone explain the do's and dont's when testing the amplifier.
2)If the LNA is not working, what are the usual...
Re: RF choke calculation
thanks for the reply but i really need a method for calculating the inductance because I need to explain my design to my supervisor. the frequency that need to be blocked are ku band frequencies(11.7-12.2GHz)
Can anyone juz pls explain the calculation in detail.(I know...
How do we calculate the inductance(rf choke) required for a biasing network.
my design is 12GHz LNA with Zin=15.143+j9.6410 and ZL=17.75+j4.99. Vdd is 8.3V with Rd=680ohm.I am using 50 ohm terminations for input and output.
Can anyone pls show the calculation and explain the formula?
Actually i...

How do we calculate the inductance(rf choke) required for a biasing network.
my design is 12GHz LNA with Zin=15.143+j9.6410 and ZL=17.75+j4.99. Vdd is 8.3V with Rd=680ohm.
Actually i used microstrip but i want to know the formula for Rf choke calculation...
Re: LNA design question
thanks for all ur reply Mr.khouly.
i have done all the simulation and i am getting desired results. i have added a resistance at the load to improve stability. My design is 12GHz microstrip LNA with gain 10dB and nf 0.77 using ATF36077 phemt.
My problem is now the...
what should be the length of my microstrip
thanks for the reply. Can u pls explain what is srf and the formula by which to convert the inductance and capacitance to microstrip lengths.
Re: LNA design question
I really appreciate your reply, thanks. I did as u told and increased my frequency sweep for the LNA simulation and found that at 9GHz the S11 is 3db but the S22 is always below 0dB.
Do you think this will be a problem? My design involves only Ku band range frequency...
