stand alone programmer

anybody knows if exists any standalone production programmer for Microchip PIC's?
I need something like the CYCLONE II form MOTOROLA for freescale HC08 microcontrollers.

Sorry, but I know people that has CAN implemented on PIC micro and use JUST ONE micro for the system, and the system do a lot of things such a PID motor control, LCD control, keyboard control, etc.
And from my point of view, MSP430 is much more powerful than PIC micro.

I think you can use two capacitors and a comparator, you charge one capacitor whit the positive pulse and the other with the negative pulse, the comarator will determine you if duty is above or below 50%.
It's just an idea, hope be phisically possible and helpful for you

Please, be more specific, what is your host platform?, your software will have a GUI?, what platform for the server and what for the client?.

If you're new in linux, I recommend you to learn linux first, and do some kernel programing, with that done, you can buy any ARM7 ev board and try to run the uClinux ARM7 port.
Have a look at www.uclinux.org
You can also buy the uCsimm hardware module, but it's not ARM based.

If the most important is low power consumption you may consider TI MSP430.
I think they don't have a solution with CAN, but you can implement it by software.
These microncontrollers have very nice features such as hardware multiplier, 12 bit ADC, serial interfaces, etc.

Even if wget is not interactive, it is powerfull, more than any GUI windows based website downloader.
You don't need to install it, most linux distributions have it by default.
You can leave it running in background, or even keep it running after you close your session, using NOHUP.
Try wget...
