What is meant by the term "Gated output"?

Sorry, I don't understand. My room?

What is meant by the term "Gated output"?

Does it simply mean that the output is of a square wave form, or rather has defined logic levels as opposed to an analogue waveform? Thanks in advance

[SOLVED] Noise Figure of amplifier in compression

Hi I would like to determine the NF of an amplifier when in compression. I have an input signal of 11.87dBm, with a phase noise floor of -163dBc/Hz. The output of the amplifier is 17.9dBm with a phase noise floor of -162.5dBc/Hz. Using the equation NF=10Log(SNRin/SNRout) (same as Phase noise...

matthaei, young and jones - anyone know of a good quality version?

Hi all As you may or may not be aware, this classic filter design book is now available for free. The only link I can find to download this is **broken link removed** (part 1) **broken link removed** (part 2) However, the quality of these scans is pretty bad, and half the figures and...

Why is this emitter follower not saturating?

Thanks. Ok, I see your point regarding the source. In the real application the source is in fact a common base stage which delivers about 24dBm to a 50Ohm(ish) load. A small amount of power is then coupled off from the output of the common-base stage to drive this emitter follower. How would I...

Why is this emitter follower not saturating?

Yes sorry I did realise I was being stupid after posting. I've been looking at this thing for too long! But I do have another question about it. I have actually built the circuit, and in the real application the signal source (into this circuit) is coupled off from a 24dBm main signal. In this...

Why is this emitter follower not saturating?

Hi I have simulated the attached emitter follower circuit in LTspice. Since the transistor is biased from a single postive supply, I don't understand how the output waveform (Red) can be going negative? Surely the waveform should be clipping when it goes below 0V? Note, the output is taken at...

Power dissipation of BJT in linear operation

Thanks guys. I guess the overall dissipation calculation would involve umesh49's integration of ac voltage & current as well as FvM's dc operating point dissipation?

Power dissipation of BJT in linear operation

Thanks for your reply. Yes I understand that the dissipation will be a combination of dc and ac, but I would like to know how exactly this is calculated and how the power is actually dissipated within the transistor?

Power dissipation of BJT in linear operation

Hi all I am trying to calculate the power dissipation of a high-frequency npn BJT (NE461M02) which is acting as a small-signal amplifier in CB configuration. This is for reliability prediction and I need to calculate the stress on the component. I have done some googling but I cannot seem to...

Minimum practical frequency limit of EM solvers?

Thanks alot! Tools available to me are Microwave office EMSight, genesys momentum and genesys EMPower. I think these are all 2.5D solvers, I'm not sure on what number precision they use though. Have you had any experience with these?

Minimum practical frequency limit of EM solvers?

Hi all I've been trying to find out what the lower frequency limit for EM solvers is? Would it make sense to attempt to analyse a spiral planar inductor in the 10-100kHz region for example? I'm guessing that this is too low, but I'm not sure why this would be without flicking through my old EM...
