Re: Connecting Rx and Tx with ckts having different supplies
NO you cannot use transistors. Connect the Rx and Tx of +5v powered ckt to the buffer(74HC125).It will output the signals at 3.3 v to the ckt powered by 3.3V.
the obvious disadvantage of using an external eeprom is that it will engage some of the pins of your controller.
check if program memory of pic is non volatile.

interface.In RS232 protocal, positive logic ranges from -3v to -25v and negative logic ranges from +3v to +25 v. to convert...
