When I insert batteries then happens nothing until "ON" key pressed. If powered on all functions OK. But when I press "2nd""Off" then screen is erased and remain light grey. If press "ON" again then all Ok again.
The calculator went trough on customs x-ray gate when arrived.

Hi! I think 10KW is reflected as any radiation or converted to heat on collector element. The collector elements not convert this power to electic, because the output is limited at 20KW. The energy must not lost.

I get same problem at first on mc68000+adc0808. When I tied all input together I get the good result of input signal because my addressing rutine was bad.
If tied together the inputs, one of randomly addressed adc get good result. If read it without addressing, get good result. But it is...
I used an adc0808 on mc68000 and I first get random numbers when clocked and addressed it with mc68000 out port.
First try all inputs tied together and check the result. If you read good value then address latching not work. If the result garbled then check the clocking.

Hi! The IRF need more higher gate voltage in this scheme than +24v. Or need rearrange the loads and the FET in the circuit. I think this circuit will work if the FET source will be on the gnd and the load between the drain and +24v. And need adjust the voltage of pulse on the gate.
I think max232 rx/tx and pic rx/tx tied together with jumpers on the given link. RS232 standard is point to point(beetwen two units). Two tx signal on one wire. This possible caused garbled or missing bytes. For the max232 you can use a second(soft)UART on not connected IO pins.
