In metamaterial unitcell simulation , we are using lamda/4 distance between ports and unit cell . In measurement placed in the waveguide without any gap. why?

I designed an array antenna of 3x3 in hffs ..i need narrow beam for array antenna byt i m getting very large beam width.. how to reduce the beam of array antenna..is there any option in hffs..plz suggest ...
