i recommend that you make the main sin wave with digital signals instead of oscillator to able to control in any phase of signal and then compare it to produce pwm signal such as other converters

i use both PIC and avr microcontrollers both of these are flexible microcontrollers BUT the matter witch is more important is programmer man and algorithms witch you use
ofcource PIC microcontrollers are more optimised and more sure
