Dear HFSS users,
A colleague of mine spotted that when exporting fields quantity on a surface or a volume using the field calculator (using the "Write" button), the ascii file generated by HFSS contains many duplicate points (same (x,y,z) points and more disturbing, different values...
Well, thanks for the opinion, but anyway it can still be usefull.
For example I'm dealing with plasma, with cases of complex reference impedances. Also one can model matching circuits using complex reference impedances.
Thanks. Do you, or someone here, have this software?
I would be interested in the following test : let's assume a 2 port network of S-parameters (defined for 50 ohm reference impedance) at 75.8 GHz
[[-0.194 - 0.228j, -0.721 + 0.160j],
[-0.721 + 0.160j, +0.071 - 0.204j]]
what would be the...
Thanks, I'm aware of this thread, which I saw before posting this one.
But that does not answer my main question: are you aware of EDA softwares implementing pseudo-wave formulation?
Both ADS and ANSYS Circuit uses Power-Waves definitions. In order to compare Pseudo-Wave implementation in...
Dear Microwaves Colleagues,
An issue with complex characteristic impedances has recently been reported with the RF Python package scikit-rf, which has led to many discussions. Maybe people here would have interesting advices or comments about that problem, which is the following.
Most EDA...
Yes, for sure. Is there a flow in the liquid or not ? If not, it's a simple electromagnetic-then-transient-thermal simulation. If there is a flow, it is more complicated since it may required some fluid calculation (flow, heat echange, etc.) .
Yes they can.
In particular HFSS (Version>13)...
COMSOL is a good software with which you can tune a lot of things (really). I like to say that HFSS and CST are engineer softwares (not so much options in numerical solving for example), while COMSOL is more a physicist soft... Which mean that there is a lot of things to learn, and the soft will...
Sure, I perfectly agree with you.
However, since the HFSS documentation is quite poor, I'm almost certain that a lot of HFSS users who model waveguides are not aware of that...
Dear all,
I've previously started (and closed) a thread in this forum (06-04-11) about the characteristic impedance calculation of rectangular waveguide in HFSS.
The conclusion at that time was that the results given by HFSS were not in accordance with the classical electromagnetic books...
Hello,
The characteristic impedance is badly implemented in HFSS to my opinion: the only way to find the same value of the analytic characteristic impedance of the TE10 mode is to define an integration line and set the impedance calculation to Zpv. Then, you will find the same analytic value...
Hi,
First of all, please read the HFSS documentation:
Technical notes -> Excitationt -> Wave Ports
where you will understand why one may need to enforcement an integration line to a wave port.
Modes are being said degenerate when they have the same cutoff frequency (thus, exciting one mode...
Dear all,
I've checked with CST, which gives the same that the analytical results, i.e. 523Ohm.
CST default impedance definition uses the average of the E/H fields in the port surface. If we force CST to calculate the impedance as in HFSS, i.e. using V²/P integration line (Zpv), then one finds...
Hi,
I've finally understood the problem: in Designer, when creating a N-port bloc-device (my load in my example), Designer assumes that the S-parameters of this N-port device are normalized to 50 Ohm. It seems that it cannot be changed.
A workaround solution is to create a touchstone file with...
