Hello,
Is anyone aware of a very thorough list of design rules published that goes above and beyond of what can typically be found under a list of fab capabilities?
Something like a huge list of what is typically checked, and with standard rules and "advanced capabilities" rules.
I have...
yes, you really should consider the plating effects in your impedance calculation. check with your fabricator to give you what is typical. it seems every fabricator is a little different and i have seen ranges of 33um to 53um as the final thickness when starting with 1/2 oz copper

For high frequency signals, the current is mainly concentrated along the trace edges (many will argue but it's true). Not many realize this and they go through great lengths to use expensive mixed selective platings. The added copper has little effect on the total loss. Its biggest effect is...
My company has added this tool and several of us are in the learning stage.
Isn't there a way to move items precisely through use of entering relative coordinates at keyboard? It seems that such a powerful program would have such a feature, but non of us are finding and it looks like only...
Thank you for the replies. I am using the most recent version. I have an active license and keep the program up to date. I'm wondering if having all the extra bloatware that I never use is causing problems. I have everything installed but only use the PCB tools. It is not a good feeling...
The program crashes on me on average once a week. I'm using a pretty solid system, plenty of memory, Windows 7 64 bit and keep everything updated. Are other users experiencing this?
Try going to Sunstone Circuits website. They have an Altium file for download that has conservative DRC setting added. Here is a file, with numbers, should keep you out of trouble
What are the best add-on autorouters one could use with PCB programs? I see Electra, but there are no good instructions if your using Altium. Eremex looks wierd, and SPECCTRA seems to have disappeared. Are there any other 3rd party autorouters out there besides these?
Maybe this is a real elementary question, but I see mention of DSN files a lot. Is this strictly an Orcad schematic item, or is there some other files called this format? If so, what does this mean?
Thank you.
This is a topic that may be of interest. Not meant to be a "this is better than that", but more of a general information exchange for "mid level" PCB design programs such as: PADS, Altium, Cadstar, Proteus, etc.
I'll start by asking about OrCad:
I always thought Cadence OrCad was to be...
I rarely use autorouting, but there are times where it would sure come in handy. The autorouting capability of Altium is very poor, in my humble opinion. Has anyone had decent success with any external autorouting programs that can interface with Altium? If so, could you suggest a program...
I don't really recommend using autocad for pcbs unless they are real simple circuits. If you need to make gerber, there is a conversion program called ACE 3000 ... there are a few others out there, but this one is the simplest one
