CST MWS Radiation Efficiency vs Total Efficiency

hi - might someone be able to clearly explain, preferably from the CST user manual, the calculation method for both radiation efficiency and total efficiency? thanks in advance.

high isolation (-25 to -30 dB) dual fed patch element - looking for reference

Hello all. i'm looking for some reference help on this topic. Patch bandwidth is about 9%. any paper suggestions or books would be great. alternatively a discussion in this thread would be great as well. i've seen some papers synopsis seems high isolation is achievable beyond what i'm...

    rectangular waveguide design in hfss

sam, you could design a slotted waveguide array several ways in HFSS. those ways could include wall thickness or not, depending on your design criteria. i would expect you would like the most accurate solution, so yes i would include wall thickness. as far as building this in hfss it is...

HFSS help in S11, S12 and how Can I get the actual distance coverabe of my antenna

sounds good, feel free to ask if you get stuck and dont forget to click the 'helpful' in our helpful posts :)

HFSS help in S11, S12 and how Can I get the actual distance coverabe of my antenna

just to confirm. to use friis equation a couple of things must be known. Tx power - should be easily achievable Gt,Gr - sounds as if you're working on one of these, you would have to know the antenna on the other end or assume its a duplicate of what you're currently evaluating. Rx power - if...

HFSS help in S11, S12 and how Can I get the actual distance coverabe of my antenna

as sv has noted, unless you have a two port antenna, you will only have s11. you can use friis equation to get a line of site distance for two antennas if you know the input power at the tx side using Pr/Pt = GtGr(lambda/(4pi*r) where r is radiation distance Pr & Pt are power at receive and...

yes edited, typing fast and typoed, thanks.

    FM antenna matching using HFSS

impedance matching does of course impact the radiation of the antenna, this is known as radiation efficiency. directivity and gain are related by this efficiency. so i think what volker is trying to say is, and correctly say, is that directivity should be not impacted by your poor match...

    omni-directional waveguide horn

i concur with dave, open ended waveguide contradicts your request for omni pattern. just for giggles, you could make a slotted waveguide array with the omni pattern and gain you have noted, while leaving the ends of the waveguide open. so technically it would be an open ended waveguide antenna...

    Need advise on combined antennas

i would suggest as vfone did a diplexer. because your frequencies are so spread apart this should be easily achievable with lumped elements with minimal <.3 dB insertion loss at highest frequencies. you could make this design and board yourself, if you have the means. you need the diplexer...

    omni-directional waveguide horn

i have no idea what the guy above it talking about. however, we need to know a bit more about your gain requirements. sounds as if you need a slotted waveguide. there are techniques you can use to make the pattern reasonably omni, but tends to work better if your required directivity is a few db.

I need HFSS for my final year project

there is a ton of information available regarding vivaldi antenna. if i was to supply you with the taper, then i would be doing the project no :) i dont think you will find this to be terribly difficult. you will simply experiment with the taper definition to see its impact on directivity...

I need HFSS for my final year project

u should be able to use autocad for your flare and import into IE3D. however if you want HFSS i suggest looking at their website finding the satellite office that is closest to yours and contacting them for a trial license. you would most likely have to coordinate this with your department or...

    design antenna for wpt

certainly FR4 would be quite lossy at 10 GHz. but as kohi noted, what is the performance parameter that isnt satisfactory? if you end up needing a material wither lower loss tangent then as suggested look at a teflon based material. if you identify a material work with your department at...

Anternna, ask a questiones! What's the antenna's passive test and active test?

passive test is as described above, tests of radiation patterns, gain/directivity/efficiency etc... active test can mean many things, but more often than not involves test of the antenna integrated with the intended electronics and running tests within an anechoic chamber that emulates the...
