diagram dispersion using hfss
The Eigen Mode Solver is required to generate a dispersion diagram in CST MWS. If you have it, then the periodic boundary is applied to the ±X & ±Y bounds of a unit cell of the structure to be analyzed, with the phase between the boundaries as parameter. The...

Download the attachment to new subject titled "Ansoft Designer Getting Started Guide" just posted in this forum.

Yes, I agree on adel-48's point. The higher-order modes are generated at discontinuities and so it goes that to have high modal purity at your ports, you want to avoid having discontinuities there...
According to the documentation for Ansoft Designer on the subject:
Modes, Reflections, and...
For analysis of a single-ended transmission line, I believe one mode should be sufficient presuming "quasi-TEM" qualifies as a single mode. For 2 conductor TL's (e.g. a differential pair), then 2 modes should be included; for 3 conductors, 3 modes, etc.
axial ratio equation
Axial Ratio is a term that is typically used with respect to Circular - not Linear - Polarization. For a good dual-LP antenna, Axial Ratio will be very high, say > 35 dB, since LP axial ratio is essentially the cross-pol discrimination (XPD). For a good dual-CP antenna...
Both HFSS and Ansoft Designer can be regarded as accurate... Given identical models, both tools should provide identical results within the numerical precision of their respective computation engines. The challenge is in the care taken by the user to ensure that the models are indeed...
ansoft documentation
Attached is the online help documentation for using Optimetrics in Ansoft Designer. It is similar to that used in HFSS, and in fact, the header of the document erroneously says "HFSS".
Also attached is a file containing mumerous examples for doing Planar EM analyses...
Be sure that your ports terminated at a 50 ohm resistance. mag[s21]>1 can occur when the port is terminated with the complex impedance of a black box. Otherwise, check the header and data in your s2p file for consistency (i.e. header & data are both MA or RI or dB/ang or whatever...). AppCAD...
Ansoft Designer Help
Designer's PlanarEM solver, formerly known as Ensemble, has a very long heritage and is very reliable - virtually bulletproof when used properly. It sounds like you may be terminating your port with a complex S-parameter file/N-port. This can result in S21 > 1 for passive...
Swanson's book, cited above, is the best reference I've seen to date that makes a detailed comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of each of various solvers all in one text. Strongly recommended for anyone working with EM software.
Use the "Edit/Select Edges" tool to select the edge of your planar EM structure where you wish to attach your N-port "blackbox." Then use the "Edit/Select" tool to select the port (the diamond shape on the symbol) of the N-port "blackbox" where you wish to connect your planar EM structure...
what is light line in dispersion diagram
I'm not running HFSS these days - I'm using the Eigenmode solver in CST MWS to solve these types problems now. Nonetheless, I did frequently refer to a solution of the Sievenpiper structure using HFSS to guide my own work in MWS. Attached are a...
