ok if i want to create a Nx1 matrix I write?
constant N : integer := 1;
constant M : integer := 7;
type NM is array(0 to N, 0 to M) of integer;
and by using the matrix_instance I can assign the values of the elements of the matrix?

probably you mean digital IC design so the best thing to start with its to study the MOSFET transistor, the CMOS Inverter and the electrical wire models.
