Help me understanding the following circuit

the purpose of MAX5993 is to handle these plug/unplug events, even so, I don't understand how the diode can help. At first, I thought it for reverse polarity protection, but for this purpose, the diode should be place on VCC pin, not the GND

Help me understanding the following circuit

Hi all please look at the attached circuit, it is designed by our former power-supply designer engineer this is hot-swap controller MAX5993A for 48V there is a D11, a schottky diode, connected to GND, that I don't understand it's purpose. What it used for?

    designing counter for 10 seconds

Hi all I need a simple design for counter, there is an input trigger pin when trigger is going from low to high, the output should be "1" for 10 seconds, if another trigger appears in these 10 seconds, the output should start counting 10 second again, still holding the "1" at output for example...

ceramic capacitors explode - need urgent help

Thanx all for your replies I will replace the capacitors to higher voltage ratings, and will add TVS diode in parallel with GDTs. Hope this will help.

ceramic capacitors explode - need urgent help

attached a picture of the power supply I don't know the reason why the "-" connected to chassis, it is off-the-shelf power supply unit, and it has passed all safety tests and has UL certification, so I don't worry about it. The C5 capacitor never blow up, but if it has to do with transients...

ceramic capacitors explode - need urgent help

Hi all, attached a schematics for an input EMI filter for DC-DC PSU the input voltage is 48V from external power supply output is 5V 30A DC_IN_POS is the +48V input DC_IN_NEG is the 48V return the chassis ground (the one between RFI_CONTACT1 and RFI_CONTACT2) is connected to DC_IN_NEG in the...

    connecting Earth to digital GND

what are the safety hazards? the secondary voltage is less than 60V, so it's not a "dangerous" voltage. also, what does it mean "ground separation" between primary and secondary? there is no ground in the primary, because it is AC. or maybe i'm wrong, and the "earth" is the AC's ground?

    connecting Earth to digital GND

please look at the attached picture this is our custom power supply in metal enclosure i'm performing now tests for IEC60950 safety standards the "-" of the DC output is connected to system's protective "earth" connection (don't know why) - marked red can this cause fault in safety tests? and...

Pin swapiing on DDR data lanes

Can I swap data lanes in the data bus of the DDR? I mean, can I, for example, connect DATA[0] from CPU to DATA[12] of DDR? it can help me in routing.

    DDR2 simulation & routing questions

Please look at the attached file page 6 there is a simulation of single data lane 1) why the impedance is not equal on the whole way? shouldn't it be equal? wouldn't it cause reflections? 2) why the trace lengths are not the same for top & bottom? there is 24 mil difference between them...

    PCB control impedance calculation

pcb control But when the VCC layer consisted of many VCC islands, each island is different voltage, can it be still consisted as reference plane?

    PCB control impedance calculation

impedance calculation I have 6-layers stackup: -----SIGNAL -----GND -----SIGNAL -----SIGNAL -----VCC -----SIGNAL the board is for PCI express cards, with differential lines, that must be impedance controlled to 100 Ohm differential. For top layer and layer 3, the reference layer is the GND...

Display output in Simulink OFDM demo

bernoulli binary generator+matlab I guess you want to use scope/spectrum to observe the data? you should unbeffer the data. use "unbuffer" block before scope/spectrum
