I think most of the EDA tools run fine on RHEL 3.
Synopsys do mentioned in their official web site that, all the newer version of their tools will support RHEL 3.

If I am not mistaken, you had run lmgrd for the same deamon (cdslmd for this case) more than once. The best thing to clear up the mess
1. Remove all the auto start license script
2. Remove all the lock file under /usr/tmp
3. Rebot your PC
4. Start the license manually

Hi, there is no fix path for Astro. The path is where the placed you install the software. If I am not mistaken, there is no installation needed for astro 2003.04. You just need to untar the tar ball. If that is the case, then your path will be the place where you untar it, with "\bin" or...
hercules vs. calibre
I think both tools have their own pro and con. Some of the feature, calibre did a better job compare to hercules, and the other way round for some other feature. It's totally up to the user preference.
em..never know that HSpice comes with schematic editor. Do you mind to tell me what's the binary name? I used to use HSpice with Cosmos SE which is a custom layout schematic editor from Synopsys.

verilog netlist to spice
for hercules, use this
nettran -verilog [filename] -output spice -outname [spice_file_name]
you have more options like tie b0 to vss and b1 to vdd, I can't really remember the syntax here.

What you can do is, you let Astro know the scan chain path befoer the placement, and, astro will make note of it.
After CTS, you can ask Astro to reconnect them back and do a scan chain reordering.
