Looking for help getting/making a battery powered 5v power supply

You asked for rudimentary info, so I hope this helps... You could use a 12V 7Ah rechargable lead acid battery, the type used in emergency lighting and alarm boxes. They are easy and cheap enough to come across. For the 5Volt part, you could buy an off the shelf DC to DC convertor such as...

Dead Goodmans GDC 1308 Digital camera.

Does anybody have a schematic or service manual for a Goodmans Digital Camera. Model No GDC 1308 TFT. The camera is dead and a new set of batteries run down and get hot very quickly. I expect a short but would like an idea of the layout before I commit to opening it up.

    switching power supply?

They can also be made smaller/lighter for the equivalent current rating than a transformer based power supply.

    Dropping voltage from 8V to 5 V and 5.5 V

Re: Voltage drop You dont want to use diodes or you dont want to use a regulator. Why...? Thats what regulators are for. I assume you dont want to use any transistors or are transistors OK. The following circuit link contains one 1N4001 diode and 4 transistors and a small handfull of...

How is a OA79 diode different from the 1n4007 ones?

diode silicium detection am The OA79 is a germanium based diode. This conducts in the forward biased direction at ~0.3Volts. Silicon diodes Conduct in the forward biased direction at ~0.6 or 0.7 volts. If you are wanting to detect weaker signals a germanium diode is a good choice. Nowadays we...

How to use 220vac to use 24vdc relay....

The quickest and easiest way would be a transformer followed by a rectifier/regulator circuit. I know a few ways to step down the voltage without the transformer but they do not offer the isolation or protection. Cheap is not always safe.
