Bike Dynamo to 5V USB Design for thoughts?

Hi, I'm designing a circuit to allow the safe and efficient charging of USB devices from a DC 6V 3W bike dynamo with some protection and output buffering via a 5.4V 5F supercapacitor (PHV-5R4V505-R). Thought I would pass the dsign as it stands by the good folks here for comment and help...

    [SOLVED] Diode to reduce voltage?

Thanks folks, that's really helpful. Good call on the LM317, two oversights on my part! Thanks for the transistor method too, do you have any values for the resistors? I will try both methods and learn something :-)

    [SOLVED] Diode to reduce voltage?

Thanks - for all those with a similar question to this a couple of regulators to look at are: MIC29302 & LM317

    [SOLVED] Diode to reduce voltage?

Thanks Brushhead - are you able to suggest a suitable voltage regulator to try?

    [SOLVED] Diode to reduce voltage?

Hi, I'm currently working on a project that requires both 5V and 3V7 with a max current demand of about 2A - I'm wondering if it's acceptable to simply reduce the 5V by placing a diode inline to the 3V7 input? Perhaps there is a better way of doing this? I have tried an adjustable buck boost...

OP Amp circuit tweak to reduce gain and increase speed?

Thanks for taking the time to explain folks, much appreciated - based on what you have said I'm going to try and alter the circuit I have used so far to see if I can get the output I am looking for. I will report back what I find - it sounds like I may have to consider a different circuit but...

OP Amp circuit tweak to reduce gain and increase speed?

Thanks folks, Sounds like the capacitors will not produce a time lag between input and output then :-) On the gain question, may I ask which 2 resistors in the circuit control the gain? Thanks

OP Amp circuit tweak to reduce gain and increase speed?

Afternoon All, I have been tinkering with the circuit below to amplify output from a Piezo disk but need to make some tweaks - my knowledge is not up to speed with OP Amps so wondering if I can swing this one past you good folk for thoughts? Basically the circuit has too much gain for my...

Measuring high resistance in the range from 10K ohms to 100 Giga ohms?

Hi FvM, The aim is to eventually come up with a more sophisticated design which copes with the large range and high resistances but when I came across this I wanted to understand and try it... just for learning really :-)

Measuring high resistance in the range from 10K ohms to 100 Giga ohms?

No such luck - just got an image to work off.

Measuring high resistance in the range from 10K ohms to 100 Giga ohms?

Hi, I'm still ticking away on this slowly :-) I came across the simple circuit below that uses a PIC MCU but don't fully understand how it all works so was wondering if anyone else does? I know won't have a huge resistance range but will be a good starting point. - Two of the analog pins AN2...

Measuring high resistance in the range from 10K ohms to 100 Giga ohms?

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.... completely understand :-). I will attempt to pull a circuit together for your thoughts.... It will be good for my learning :-)

Measuring high resistance in the range from 10K ohms to 100 Giga ohms?

Hi Crutschow, would it be possible to email you a proposal please - I think you may well be the man for this project. If that's OK perhaps you could 'message' your email address to me? Thanks.

Measuring high resistance in the range from 10K ohms to 100 Giga ohms?

Thanks crutschow, really great links - I hadn't seen those before, I will have a good read. I wonder if either of you might be able to help me pull a circuit together so that I can start playing to see what works in reality, it may be that 100 Giga ohms if really off the useful scale and 100M...

Measuring high resistance in the range from 10K ohms to 100 Giga ohms?

Hi FvM, I think you are spot on... most of the kit I have looked at has 3 OPamps and a multiplexer or 2. I have pulled one of the meters open here to show you what's inside - I think the right hand stuff is mostly the analog circuit whilst the left hand side is mostly the digital multimeter...
