if u are time bound i guess you should get hold of an engg student and ask or post here doubts wenevr and whtever occur....oserwise there is lot to learn and not all is required...or else go for digital signal processing by proakis and manolakis....read the preface...

The best book to start learning matlab is the one by rudrapratap singh...if u r in a college should be available in ur coll library....once u r done wid it u can turn to various toolboxes according to your need...in that context matlab help is very good
