Totally agree Mattylad , in my 25 years experiance as "only" a PCB designer I have found that many engineers want the challange of laying out PCB's but they get 3/4's of the way through, can't finish the job due to bad placement and design constraints and then pass the job over to their in house...
The error message means that the footprint (PCB shape) that you have chosen/assigned for the capacitor
has no/or wrong pin numbers assigned to its pads.

I'm using copper pour in Cadstar and wish to have some pads with thermal relief and some not, basically I wish to choose which pads have relief.
I know there is a way of bypassing the default setting of all with or all without but I can't remember/find it.

I can answer a couple of your questions,
1. When cadstar crashes and you have a design open cadstar creates a lock file for this design. To enable editing of these designs you need to delete the lock file, you will find lock file in the same folder as your master design. ( FYI the...
Try these :-
In the Design Editor, change plane layers from electrical to powerplanes then change back again after stub completion or
In Route Editor, tick Tidy Respects Vias and un- tick Aerial Removal.
