pic programmer with max232
MAX232A is the variant of Maxim equivalent to ST232CN.
With that variant 100nF is also working fine.
When using MAX232, 1uF is recommended.
easyprog
I decided to build the Easyprog Pic serial programmer from
http://www.embedinc.com/easyprog/
Debugging it, I found a mistake in the RS232 schematic.
C11 was connected to GND instead of +5V.
Furthermore if you want to use the MAX232 instead of the ST232CN,
the charge pump capacitors...
