I have similar thing in HFSS 13. Can't figure out the reason.
It calculates one pass and crashes.
When using parametric for phase in HFSS 13, some results can be saved giving coarse dispersion curve.
But HFSS 15 doesn't save even coarse data...
I found that this happens when using PML.
But I was using PML before and don't see the difference.

Strange. I am getting "Failure reading file for mode = 4" "Unexpected internal software error code 0 with module id 0" in ver.13 when using Eigenmode solver.
In the past I have rarely used Eigenmode solver, and when used, I never seen this behavior.

I just wanted to say that the culprit can sit between the connectors. I don't trust microstrip calculators too much until I simulate the line with high precision on the designated substrate.
HFSS solves in frequency domain theoretically unrelated to the frequency scale. So it stacks in the mesh size.
If I am not mistaken, technically it is limited by word precision (supposing they use 64bit processor PFU words) and machine accessible RAM size.
