    Mesh transform, how?

Can you help me please with software selection? I need to twist a 3D object. Technically, mapping vertices into twisted coordinates is a minimum requirement. But since there are long edges and wide faces, I want the software to make some intelligent twisting, bu curving the faces. It has been...

    CPW tapering, how to do?

Dear colleagues Please pardon me for a lack of education, but I can not figure out how to realize a tapered transition between completely different coplanar waveguide circuits with different input impedances. Specifically, I have a ~40 Ohm CPW input on high-ε ceramic substrate (ε>10). And a...

HFSS v12 error: Failure reading file for mode

nathj72: My structure is not exactly resonant. It is periodic. PEC or PMC will surely give wrong waveguide modes which will destructively affect actual modes. PML is exactly what I need, but it crashes somehow. In the past I had been trying a closed rectangular waveguide (PEC) or simple...

    communication failure hfssv13

I suppose you were using Eigenmode solver with PML? I have similar thing in HFSS 13. Can't figure out the reason. It calculates one pass and crashes. When using parametric for phase in HFSS 13, some results can be saved giving coarse dispersion curve. But HFSS 15 doesn't save even coarse data...

HFSS v12 error: Failure reading file for mode

I found that this happens when using PML. But I was using PML before and don't see the difference. ...recreating the model from the scratch...I should hang myself も(x_x)

HFSS v12 error: Failure reading file for mode

Strange. I am getting "Failure reading file for mode = 4" "Unexpected internal software error code 0 with module id 0" in ver.13 when using Eigenmode solver. In the past I have rarely used Eigenmode solver, and when used, I never seen this behavior. So, what could be the cause of the error?

HFSS: Strange results when simulating a capacitor (RLC boundary)

I tried to make a S11 based measurement of a chip capacitor in HFSS (simulated measurements) I made a 50 Ohm microstrip line of layered impedance rectangles, put a rectangular patch at the end and applied 0.55 pF capacitive boundary to it. Other side of the capacitor is shunt with another...

measuring chip capacitor against frequency using network analyzer.

biff44, thank you for trying to help, but i didn't get the idea. maybe that is a lack of education. what do you mean by "along the line"? And the curve fit, what model should I use? BTW, the VNA is Agilent PNA N5224A. And I have HFSS. I can calibrate anything I want there, but by my experience...

measuring chip capacitor against frequency using network analyzer.

Thank you, I will consider this way, however I am not sure that a real life microstrip can be approximated just with a delay... but comparing to one-port shunt measuring it looks more solid.

measuring chip capacitor against frequency using network analyzer.

OK, up to 20GHz would be enough. Yes, that's why I don't like soldering, though I can make it carefully under microscope. I don't know how to extract the model, those 0.1pF multilayer chip capacitors are completely unknown to me. Those are some experimental samples we got many years ago. Today I...

measuring chip capacitor against frequency using network analyzer.

I have an Agilent PNA network analyzer up to 40GHz. And I have a bunch of HF HQ capacitors, beginning from 0.1pF in nominal value. I have a milling machine and connectors to design a microstrip line for measurements. How can I measure actual capacitance of those capacitors against frequency...

HFSS : how to subtract polyline structure from a box in HFSS ?

Again, subtraction works with the same dimensions in the same space (2D obj. should be arranged on the same plane) Therefore you should either find a cross-section of your 3D box with the poly-shape's plane, or extrude your poly-shape to some kind of 3D object. The capabilities of HFSS in the...

Why SMA connector impedance below 50 ohm? Thank you.

I just wanted to say that the culprit can sit between the connectors. I don't trust microstrip calculators too much until I simulate the line with high precision on the designated substrate.

Range of operation of HFSS in terms of Frequency

HFSS solves in frequency domain theoretically unrelated to the frequency scale. So it stacks in the mesh size. If I am not mistaken, technically it is limited by word precision (supposing they use 64bit processor PFU words) and machine accessible RAM size. I believe, it is from several Hz to...
