Sure you do! Yu can start of learning 8051 then advanced to Atmel's 8951 it is simple but powerfull and cheap enough. The assembler is spread anywhere on the web. From 'C' like to pure assembler.

you must use zero crossing detector.
I'm sory i'm weak on analogue design, but I know that to control like that you must use zero crossing detector. btw, what is your signal? sine or what?

I've heard many of this kind of problem :)
But actually i don't know how to solve it detailly. I just know that in windows 2000, NT, XP you must access the windows API function in it's kernel. Not applying the data directly using outp or the other command, it;s useless...

Before i answer, I want to know what is the configuration of RA1, as input or output. If it's configured as output (to control something) then it's simple, just add an AND Gate that will be used...
