I have a ZigBee 2006 Home Automation network for which I am developing a new End Device. My question is if an End Device joins a network and then later again attempts to join the same network, should that work? My End Device previously joined the network, but it was then power-cycled for development/debug purposes. Nothing is stored in non-volatile memory on the End Device, so it forgets all about being part of a network when it is power-cycled. When I try to get it to rejoin the network, I see a lot of Association Requests in my Ubiqua ZigBee sniffer, but the network never responds. The only reason I can think of for this is that I may have used up all the short addresses. Are there any other reasons this may be happening? Thanks.

What is the make up of your end device? Are you using a MCU along with a ZigBee transceiver or is it a all-in-one style unit? If so, what models are they? Are you running a straight 802.15.4 protocol or some mesh variant? You mentioned, "Nothing is stored in non-volatile memory on the End Device, so it forgets all about being part of a network when it is power-cycled." Does this include critical data such as the PAN ID, etc?

Don't you have a callback for this request? Place a breakpoint inside callback function and see the status received for the request. Then you would know the exact reason. If now you see the status but you don't know what it means, then see the ZigBee specification for more details about this status.

Hope that helped.
