Forum rules & policies (quick reference)

The following is a quick reference of the forum rules, the detailed forum rules, policies and FAQ can be read here

    • Always add code or syntax tags when you include code in your post. Refer to this guide
    • Select the proper section for your thread and don't post the same question in multiple sections.
    • Use descriptive titles related to the content of the thread. Titles should give a hint of what the question is about. Also avoid useless prefix like "please help" or "urgent".
    • Advertisements are not allowed in blogs or any area of the forum apart from the dedicated advertising section. Also advertising in intended for electronics related products (not gadgets, not mobiles, not nutrition etc).
    • All attached files should be uploaded to the EDAboard server and not external file sharing services like rapidshare.
    • Do not discuss, share or request copyrighted material which is not free to distribute. That includes copyrighted ebooks, software, software licenses, IEEE papers etc.
    • Do not create multiple account, that is against the forum policy and will lead to banning of your accounts.
    • Do not try to promote your blog in the forum. If you intend to reply to a question with a content existing in your blog then you should include the content in the actual reply and provide an optional link to the article but not just a bare link.
    • Do not make request for help via personal messages or emails. Replies should be posed in the forum so that other users with the same problem can benefit from them.
    • Remain respectful of other users, moderators and administrators at all times.
    • Do not misuse the report feature, it is NOT a reply button. Its purpose is to report spam, advertising messages and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.
    • Do not intrude in threads with questions unrelated to the content. Also don't reopen old threads to ask a question, create a new thread instead.

Post content described below is not allowed:

    • Posting in any language other than English in any of the forum sections (forum, blogs, groups, signatures, etc).
    • Posting in CAPITAL letters, huge fonts (equivalent of shouting)..
    • “Thank you” posts are considered useless, If you want to thank a user then click the helpful hand icon found under the post or donate points.
    • h**p://www style links or any other form that is not clickable, use normal http://www links instead.
    • Technical abbreviations unless they are universally understood, they will confuse members and make it hard for them to understand what you mean.
    • SMS abbreviations, they make posts unreadable and prevent many users that don’t know English well enough to understand them. Type complete words.
    • Intentionally posting incorrect or flagrantly dangerous information
    • Meaningless threads, one word (or short) non-sense posts, or the such (e.g “I agree”).
    • Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations.
    • Excessive numbers of emoticons, large, small or coloured text, etc
    • Excessive punctuation (e.g. ! and ?) in topic titles or posts
    • Threads requesting to receive reply in private email
    • Offering to provide help as a paid service in non advertising section.
    • Discussions of politics, ethnicity, religion, or other divisive issues in any area.
    • Anything which is offensive, hateful, racist, sexist, discriminatory, obscene, vulgar or in violation of local or international laws.
    • Insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts.

Use CODE or SYNTAX tags for code posted in messages

When you include code in your posts you should always use CODE or SYNTAX tags, these tags limit the length of the code and show the indents properly so that the code is easier to read and doesn't occupy too much space.

The CODE tag can be added by the icon next to quote (in quick or advanced reply)

To apply the code tags properly do one of the following
    • type the code you intend to post (or paste it) , then select the inserted code text and press the code tag button one time
    • press the code tag button to inset the opening and closing code tag and then type or paste your code text between the inserted tags

They can also be added manually by typing the following opening and closing tags:
    PHP Code:
    [code]

write your code inside this tags

    [/code
You can also use the SYNTAX tags which are available for many languages and show the code with syntax highlighting.
The SYNTAX tags can be inserted from the right side selector in the advanced reply dialog.

You can also add them manually using

    PHP Code:
    [syntax=c]

write your code inside this tags

    [/syntax
Depending on the language used the first part can be changed to
    PHP Code:
    syntax=c
    syntax
    =vhdl
    syntax
    =verilog
    ....
If you are in doubt that you have applied the code/syntax tags correctly you can use preview post to see if the code is shown properly before posting your message.

Any member that doesn't use tags when posting code will receive a warning the first time and infraction points afterwards.

    Thank you
    Alex
