What is the concept of power islands ?

Re: power islands

power islands or votlage islands are made after partitioning the chip into blocks which will work on different power supply.
Not all the blocks on a chip need to work fast, so as per the require ments, in order to save power, differnet power 'domains' or bloks are created with a facility of working on different power supplies. There may also be a facility to cut power to a block when not in use.
These blocks or domains are called power islands or voltage islands
