Layout engineer?

What does a layout engineer in VLSI field mean? What is that he has got to do?

could someone please elaborate it.

Re: Layout engineer?

An engineer who prepares the physical drawing(MASK) of the transistors (circuits ) designed by the circuit designer.
The Layout(drawing,MASK) that he prepares is sent for fabrication.

Re: Layout engineer?

Layout engineer lays the transistors using some tool considering the design issues.

Designer designs some circuit for specific application and he mentions some of the critical issues
like matching and shielding. Layout engineer considers all these issues and lays a proper layout and checks for the correctness.
