cooperative communication

hi all,

im confused about mimo and cooperative comm. what i understand is in mimo, multiple antenna transmit chunks of independent data simultaneously, creating a spatial multiplexing and increase the transmission rate. and in cooperative comm, single antenna terminals cooperate thus create 'virtual mimo system'. somehow, the signals received at destination are replicas of same signals degraded by different channel. on the other hand, in mimo, the receiver demux the signals received (chunks) to recover the original.

so is mimo and cooperative comm is comparable then? how difference is the receiver/detection method for both mimo and cooperative comm, since both receive multiple signal, different chunks of ori signal (mimo) and multiple versions of the ori signal (cooperative comm).

im just confused since almost all literature saying cooperative comm is like 'virtual mimo'.

pls help..

thanks a lot!!

what is cooperative detection in mimo

wireless devices cannot implement multiple input multiple output due to hardware or size limitation. so wireless device will do replicate their single antenna virtually to act like MIMO system. All this process is possible thru cooperative communication.

you are confuse about "Virtual mimo" because you do not understand clear, you only understand MIMO as multi input and multi output. advance of MIMO prevent fading in communication from multi different direction. At receiver, the signal is combined and filter to select the best signal.

However, in reality we do not have real MIMO, so to apply MIMO we use virtual MIMO through cooperation communication. I give you one example:

A-->B,C (B,C are different terminals) . At B and C, the signal is amplified (AF) or decoded (DF) and then transmit to D (B,C --->D). At D, the signal will be combined with use combiner to select the best signal.
