I have developed a Processor board having a gigabit ethernet port. MAC is inbuilt in the processor and PHY is external. I have provided an arbitrary MAC ID and the product is working fine inside lab. As per my understanding MAC ID is unique, hence cannot be duplicated. So will the PHY chip itself contain the ID integrated or do I need to purchase from somewhere else. Could anyone please throw some light on to this?
Thanks

A network product manufacturer should register with IEEE either as OUI (Organizationally Unique Identifier) or IAB ( Individual Address Block) to get valid MAC ID.
