For the condition, if the array is steered past endfire the gain can actually increase a useful amount but I am wondering what does the additional gain “cost” in array performance?
 

I think I got it, as the main lobe moves passed endfire, the grating also also starts to creep in which means an interferer can come through the grating lobe.
