Multi-threaded EDA Tools

eda tools multi-thread

Hi guys,

Today I synthesized a full design with Synplify Pro for the first time ever, previously I was stuck with Xilinx tools. I got to say I absolutely love this tool. Anyways I noticed that even for such a powerful product it still uses single-threaded synthesis just like Xilinx tools. I came to wonder if any of the EDA tools are trully multithreaded. I know there exsist some tools from Synopsys, which I heard in some online demo.

Atleast tools like simulators and synthesizers must be multithreaded if not the entire flow. I know HSPICE has got a MT version,I am not sure if Modelsim has got one as my version is pretty old.

Running on Windows XP 32-bit ...
Xilinx told me they are working on multi-threading ISE. It sure would be nice for place-and-route.
I've never seen more than one processor core used in ModelSim SE 6.3 or HyperLynx 7.5.
MATLAB 7.4 now uses multi-threading in some operations. Hopefully they will add more.
I've seen nice multi-threading in ANSYS 11, although that's not really EDA.

I hope software companies continue improving multi-threaded support, because modern CPUs are heading that way.
 

tanner eda multithreaded

I would like to compile a list of EDA tools that support multithreading. As I don't have access to most of the tools I am requesting the forumers to contribute. Any or all the tools that can help in electronic design not just IC design in particular are welcome. Let me get the list going, please feel free to make corrections.

List of EDA tools with multi threading support
Mentor Graphics nmDRC with Hyperscaling of upto 100 CPUs
Cadence NanoRoute
Synopsys HSPICE
Matlab 7.4, part of R2007a release

If you would like to add to the list just name the product you know that supports multithreading and type of scaling if available.
