Hi

I hope any body has an idea how to simulate the jitter in ring oscillator using Spectre?
thankx

Re: jitter simulation

Hi
That is ok, but for simulation of jitter what to do?
is adding a noise source || to the NMOS/PMOS (as the port in the cadence ex.)?
or how?
thankx

Re: jitter simulation

You can create a FM wave with the actual signal as carrier and use a modulating sinewave of low frequency...

I have done this with ELDO.. should be possible in hspice also..

Hope this helps...

Re: jitter simulation

if the device model you used inculde the noise parameter, you need not add anything. just do transient analysis and measure the output clock eye to get the jitter.
But if you use this way, you need run very long time to get the low frequency jitter. So The better way is use pnoise analysis to get the phase noise spectrum, Then integrate it to get the phase jitter.

Re: jitter simulation

Dear
We have to do two analysis to see the Phase Noise in Spectre. The two analysis are
1.PSS
2.Pnoise

In specre simulation choose these two analysis and run the simulation.
If u click on PSS u have to give some parameters.same is the case with Pnoise.

Re: jitter simulation

Hi ,,,
Thanks for reply , but it's still not clear how?,
is their simulation procedure for that?
thanks

jitter simulation

i also hope to know how to do that.

thank you

Re: jitter simulation

You can also do it using the eye diagram.
From phase noise u can find the jitter.

Re: jitter simulation

1. Use PSS simulation
2. Use Pnose simulation
3. Plot the rms jitter in Spectre-RF.

Then you can get rms jitter.

Re: jitter simulation

There are examples in the Spectre RF spec, you can refer to.

Re: jitter simulation

u can only do that in cadence 5141 or newer version

as a rule of thumb, jitter^2= {fm/[(fm+f0)*f0]}^2 * 10^(pnoise/10)
