hi all,

what is useful skew?what is the advantage & disadvantage,&what is scheduling file, latency file,
and how it effects in placement stage
how CTS handle with out these 2 files
why dont we use usefulskew=1 always

thanku

Re: usefulskew

omg so many questions in one post:D........kidding

useful skew: when u insert delay in clk path to meet setup slack ...

adv: very critical setup can be met
disadv: hold might worsen( so should take care of hold)

only when one cant meet timing then only one go for useful skew....as playing with clk path not recommended....

anyone can correct me if i am wrong anywhere........hope that helps.....

usefulskew

moreover, useful skew usually work on local skew to make local timing better in placement stage.
in my opinion,we used skew in local domains of ur design to instead of clk period and make system work faster which is benefit for the timing issues. (perhaps have sth to do with timing borrow)
meanwhile , we should ensure the hold time is OKay just like what P_shinde has considered.
sth is unclearly, please helo me too.

usefulskew

hi please tell me about sth,and what is the need to balance the skew(what is there if clock differs from 1 flop to the other flop)
please tell me
thanks &regards

Added after 1 minutes:

what do u mean local skew& global skew

Re: usefulskew

if the skew is more then at the capturing edge u r not sure which data u r capturing......the one which is reqd.....means.....u can miss the data...........hope i am correct..........

usefulskew

i just mean the skew's function is equanvalent to the clk period.
not changed the Tclk.
if no timing borrow occurs(DFF circuit not latch), use faster clock to strobe data from the slower, vice u can miss the data perhaps........

usefulskew

hi drizzle please explain me clearly about these

how it uses instead of time period
