CPLD

I need a 16 bits shift register. I perfer to implement it in a PLD. please tell me which one is suitable. small pin unmber, low power consumption is under consideration.

:p

Hello Richard Luo,

when you only need a 16 bit shift register it would be easier and more cheaper to use standard TTL devices.
Of cource you can also use a CPLD or better a GAL but TTLs are using not so much power.

Take a look at
www.Altera.com
www.xilinx.com
www.latticesemi.com (very famous GALs)

i tjink that you can take a simple device whic is a 16 bit shift register.
The device smallest are in bga, if you would a cpld depending whic kind of farm you use to create the board. if you made the board yourself you need a plcc device that are the biggst pakage.
Bye.

You can see also www.cypress.com for cpld.

Xilinx's Coolrunner II, Lattice's MACH4000Z both can do that. Their power are much lower than other devices. I think you only need to think about the price of these two devices.

Counters

In my recent design, I used two 12 bit ripple counter from ST Micro to make 24-bit counter.

The part is HCF4040B but they are other smaller parts.

My design is for a low power application.

Also make sure it is a CMOS device if you are connecting to other CMOS IC or FPGA.

CPLD

completing a 16 shift register has many optional methods, such as common IC, PLA, CPLD, and so on.
but if the size of shift register is very large, you should choose cpld or fpga. they can simplify your design.

CPLD

xilinx coolrunner has low power cunsumption ,but it is expensive, so you must balance your requirement
