Please accept I know NOTHING about electronics except how to solder. I have tried other forums, but get swamped with jargon and debates. Please, what I am after is an idiot's guide to building an inverter for 14V AC which I can run from my car cigarettel lighter. I need about 7 amps. I can make multi units if this is a problem. I am in UK, and would probably be purchasing from Maplins, unless someone knows of another outlet in NW London area. Thanx.
I apologise in advance if this is in wrong section.

Why do you want to build this? Most inverters today use high frequency switching techniques that may be hard for a beginner like yourself. Maplin sells a whole range at affordable prices.

The other alternative is a simple 50Hz square wave inverter using a bulky 50Hz transformer.

I have a Reveal RSS340 Speaker system, which I use with my second computer. I have built a computer into my car, and want to use the Reveal as a dedicated sound system. Unfortunately, it runs 14V AC. I do not want a 240V AC inverter 'floating around' in the car.

There is a very good chance that internally in the speaker system box the 14VAC just gets rectified and regulated back down to 12VDC. So if this is the case it may be easier to just install a DC power jack and use the 12V from the car battery.

Who is this made by? I can't find any info on this.

E-design, thanx. I found a 14V DC line inside, so assume I can splice into it. As to who they are, the company name was Reveal, I think they have shut up shop, although it is possible they were bought by Creative. They were very expensive for what they were, but I love the sound they put out.
