is intel x86 harvard or von

Hi,

Just want to know how different is the current Pentium architecture based machine different from the Von Neumann architecture machine. Are they the same? One derived from another?

Is there any books that describe the architecture of computer system?

THanks a lot!

harvard von neumann new processors intel

howard and van neuman architecture differs by the way of treating code and data memory. In howard architecture the code memory area and data memory area are seperate. code memory area is where you store your instructions , and data memory area is where we have our datas. But in van neuman architecture there is no seperation between code and data area.
Intel uses howard architecture and motorola 68xxxseries uses van neuman .

But from what I gather, intel x86 family seem to be more von neumann architecture inclined. THe Pentium differs more from von neumann architecture in the way the caches are used(separating data and instruction). Is that why you mentioned that intel adopt a harvard architecture?

pentium architecture harvard

Neumann architecture generally employed in DSP processor which r capable of processing any video , audio & data signal which either microprocessor or controller can 't handle

pentium architecture von neumann

The Pentium actually follow what is called as the Superscalar architecture. This basically derives good points from the von-neumann and harvard architectures. Harvard architecture is the one followed by most of the digital signal processors.
