If so then why? and also, please suggest a good book for starting PIC microcontroller based embedded systems. (like Mazidi is great for starting 8051)

hi
its depend on which compiler you want to use.for pic mcu, picbasicpro is good and easy to learn and for avr and 8051 bascom is suitable compiler.

PIC have a small instruction set, about 35 and 8051 and avr almost 100 but if you intend to programmer in Basic or C, I think is the same

I think PIC and AVR controllers are in the same side in simplicity view.
both are RISC, huge number of informations on the web. but i suggest an AVR controllers a good support and utility u can found at Atmel.com

for books search this site for:
programming and customizing PIC/AVR controllers (TWO books not one)

One question I have, PICs have constant latency time for serving interrupts, while 8051 don't. What about AVRs ?

Thanks alot
