wheather station

Hi,
I need some idea for a weather station. I don't need all of the temp/humidity stuff all I really need is the wind speed and direction. This has to be done on a budget for as cheap as possible.

I have looked at some of the commercial products but the cost is too high for my purposes. I wish to connect this to a micro controller and transmit the readings via SMS. The latter part MCU->SMS is allready working fine.

Cheers

transistor anemometer

1) Try using a Stepper Motor to get direction (use a reference then count the steps taken to settle down)

2) Use a DC motor to get speed (A to d converter)

transistor trio makes vector anemometer

make a mechanical structure which moves 360 degree controlled by stepper motor. A simple turbane(just like wind station) is over the shaft of the stepper motor to detect speed. To determine speed count the number of spikes per second or the time taken b/w two spikes(you should know the distance b/w two spikes and all the spikes should be equidistant). Calculate speed by using this. First choose a reference point. Move stepper motor 360 (one rotation) and find the point at which max speed is obtained, that will be the direction of wind.

transistors anemometer

hi,

i think u can use the VHF TX and RX modules for communication form the base station

techdesign.be good to buy stuff?

Hi!

Some time ago I started a project to reproduce the weather station from this link: https://www.techdesign.be/projects/012/012.htm

it seems to be a good project, but my progress is minimal until now, since last week I was finishing my master thesis.

Now, I´m currently, trying to implement an anemometer to this project, and by now i´m implementing this anemometer circuit: Transistor linearly digitizes airflow **broken link removed**

but this version is not able to provide direction wind data.

there is another project from the same author, but the graphics aren´t good, but you can try: Trio Transistor makes vector anemometer

I will aprecciate if you post your progresses here.

best regards;
