how to create a dial up network connection in linux environment so that i connect to the internet .

Get a serial modem and check this out.

Hi,

As you have told to get a serial modem but I am having a internal modem (D -Link) , will i be able to create a dial up network connection and connect to the net, now using the procedure told in the your post .

Please check out this web page, **broken link removed** and check out why most of the internal modems are winmodems, and most of them have no compatibility with Linux. If your modem is in the compatibility list, then that's fine, but if notm then you will have to get another modem. External modem is better because it's easier to configure.

Hi,

The website you gave is not openning , every time i try to access it ,i get the "the server is not accessible or it is busy try some time later".

Could you send me the homepage address or basic page of the relvant website you gave as " h**p://start.at/modem".

Hi,

I used the tt only instead of ** , but it is not opening it shows this message only.

While trying to retrieve the URL: **broken link removed**
The following error was encountered:
We can not connect to the server you have requested.
This means that:

* The server might be busy at this time.
* The server is not reachable.
Please try later to see if you can go through.

First of all you probably have a win(lin)modem, unfortenetly most hardware wendors don't write linux drivers for these modems, bus some of the larger chip makers like intel have been writeing drivers for some years.
This is What you shuld do:
go to
**broken link removed**
and download the script ScanModem:
**broken link removed**

Run this file from a linux partition it will identify your modem type and manufacturer. Then go Here:
**broken link removed**
or search the net for your modem type.
Once you find the apropriate driver you will need the kernel source of your current kernel a few other tools and you can compile and build your modem.

HI III,

Your post was very useful for me .
