CRC - error detection/correction

I saw several algorithms applying CRC. How to know the number of errors occurred, say my original CRC received is A and calculated CRC is B. And How can CRC be applied for error correction provided the number of errors is well below the hamming distance.
 

you can read "Digital communication"
writen by san shunmugam, chapter of cyclic code.
 

Hello , I know that CRC (in which a polynomial is used) is a tool for error detection. but it is not used for correction.

I dont have a big experience so my answer may be wrong.
